At last! On that beautiful summer day the Grey Toad presented him with a heart. (…)
Little did he know about the foul business of The Toads; and this one was particularly wicked. Forgotten was the contract he had signed and the oaths he had taken. But why should he care?”
- Leaving Everything Behind And More

blender was used to render out a full clean pass, seperate object passes and various Z passes which were used to composit the mist layers in GIMP. additionally krita (http://www.koffice.org/krita/) was used for texture painting and some finishing touches.

hope you like it!

this is a concept for a graphic novel i'm planning to develop. i was working on this image for the past 5 weeks (on and off) and i guess it turned out quite ok even though i'm not completely satisfied. moonman got a complete redesign, remodeling and texturing after he briefly appeared on the 3Dworld magazine cover (issue 80), now he is closer to my original idea. anyway... this is gonna be interesting.

this image is not primarily about the two robots.
it would be too much to say that there's a complex story hidden in the context of this image. there is however a certain feeling i was going for. it's probably too hard for me to explain with words, so i better let it speak for itself.

this one took me quite a while since i'm now sort of busy with university, learning maya, making weird movies and traveling here and there with blender in my backpack.
the mountains were made from a plane with sculpt mode with a simple normal map material, just like the snow.

enjoy!
I managed to finish it anyway. Still has plenty of rough edges, but I can't spend more time on it sadly.
this is just a quick image i made to relax during the weekend. it's based on an older character of mine, and also the idea was running around in my head for quite a while now. the individual passes were rendered out in blender and then composited in gimp.
enjoy!
